Karma shapes our existence in ways more profound than most of us realize. Far from being simply a system of cosmic punishment and reward, karma represents the fundamental experience of living in ignorance of our divine nature. This enlightening discussion explores what happens to karma when someone achieves cosmic consciousness.

So the question is I'll have to read us a few lines when a man is liberated and when the individual has merged into cosmic existence, then the influence of the karma done by him in the past will be received by his son or his grandson or by those who have blood to finish him with him, but the reaction will never become known. It will be carried on. So my question is when somebody gains cosmic consciousness? I thought that pencils are always negative karma and obviously they've been doing spiritual work for years and that means that your heroes and dearest and everybody around you will also. How can I put it? How ways out they? They hit a comma when you reach consciousness.
Speaker 1I heard Tom say once there's 108 Jeevas in an alliance and when one Jeeva gains consciousness, they cause the 107 in that direction. So I don't understand how, why I'm richly saying that that you know the negative actions that you did in the past, or you know that will materialize in some way. Are you able to clarify it?
Karma in the body and relationships
Speaker 2it's a very big subject, um, and we dive into this in great detail in the Living the Veda series, which is coming out soon. So this reality is karma, it is the construct of karma. Karma is the experience of living, in some degree, ignorance of our divine nature. At the baseline of what we are is pure divine consciousness, one whole indivisible, oceanic field of consciousness. And at some layer of that consciousness a phenomenon occurs, where there is a desire to experience itself as otherness, and the effect of creating the experience of otherness requires the force of ignorance, requires the force of ignorance. And when we are experiencing some degree of ignorance, we don't have visibility of the full picture and invariably, our individuality is going to generate a wave of effect that is going to be in some way in violation of the underlying truth of our being. When we are in a body, there is some degree of ignorance. That means that we are going to generate karma. Everything that exists within the physical world is the expression of karma. The only way that a thing can exist is because it is ignorant that it is the whole invisible field of pure consciousness. If it was entirely aware, it wouldn't exist as a manifested thing. It cannot maintain the integrity of its localized structure, because it identifies entirely with the field, because it identifies entirely with the field. And so when we are awake in cosmic consciousness, we are not fully awake to the whole universe. Now, while we may cease generating karma through our actions, there is still karma in the body, the karma because we carry the ancestry, the whole lineage of our ancestors, and there is immense karma in that we have relationships with individuals who have karma. We inhabit a reality that is made of karma, and so our consciousness becomes a force that assists in resolving the density of ignorance. So we are contributing to the resolution of karma, which is the very long-term goal of this universe is to eventually just fold back in on itself. The whole thing wakes up and it disappears back into the field, and that's meant to be one breath of God, like one cycle of God, like a ah is one cycle of creation, you know hundreds of billions and trillions of years long. It's just one breath in the scheme of it.
One awakening triggers 107 others
Speaker 2Now, when Tom would refer to 107 souls gaining the experience of cosmic consciousness because one person is, it wouldn't necessarily be referring to an individual in close proximity to you, because we are all connected in a collective field of consciousness. There are souls right now that, in their efforts, are and could be on the other side of the planet, that are directly influencing and causing profound elevation in your individual experience. All of our efforts are contributing to somebody's, whoever it is that's at the precipice of taking that next step. The force that's contributing to that elevation is the sum total of all of our efforts in our spiritual practice, is the sum total of all of our efforts in our spiritual practice. And this is why it's very important that we're reminded that enlightenment isn't just a hedonistic pursuit for our own gratification and liberation. It's in the name of the whole, the whole thing.
Enlightenment: Chop wood, carry water
Speaker 2So invariably, in awakening to cosmic consciousness which is not ceasing, unceasing in our awareness of our divine nature, in some sort of abstract way that you don't forget your divine nature, it's like the early onset of enlightenment, the sort of entry level of enlightenment. It will invariably cause another 107 to go pop, but it's not necessarily those that are in close proximity, and then you will continue to chop wood and carry water. You know the old saying before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. It's business as usual. We gain this higher state and then we go oh, it's just that I'm noticing what was always there, and nothing changes except we see suffering and we see reality for what it is and we get on with what it is we need to get on with, and that is being in support of others, which one could argue is assisting in processing karma.
